P4/3 Class Newsletter: Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the new school term in Primary 4/3! We are all excited to learn and
grow together this term. We have already begun adjusting to our new classroom
and getting used to the new routines.
During this year, the class will have two class teachers:
Literacy
In Primary 4/3 this term, we will be recapping and developing our grammar,
writing and reading. In reading, along with their reading books, we will be
continuing to improve reading strategies. Please try to read with them at home
to help them reach their best!
We will also be continuing with the Jolly Grammar Scheme in grammar. This
term our writing focus will be improving lots of tools for writing such as
vocabulary and punctuation. Alongside this, the class will begin to explore writing explanation texts. Any writing opportunities at home that your child
can take part in is great! This might include writing shopping lists, birthday
cards or recipes.
Numeracy
In Primary 4/3 this term, we will do number and maths work. Children will learn about place value (hundreds, tens and ones) and how to work with bigger numbers. We will practise addition + , subtraction - , multiplication x and division ÷ to help with quick and confident number work. Children will also learn estimation and rounding to make numbers easier to understand. We will also be exploring time during this term, so any extra practice at home would be helpful.
Our aim is to help every child feel strong and confident with maths. The children will also be able to access Sumdog at school and can access extra practice at home on this. Topmarks also have free games that your child can play online at home.
IDL (Inter-disciplinary Learning)
IDL is a fun approach that uses learning and skills from lots of different subjects all together. We will be starting by learning ‘All About Us’ to get to know everyone in our new class! This will include finding out about lots of different cultures, religions and family lives. If you have anything at home that represents your culture, such as books, clothing or objects, we would love to have a look at these!
Gym Days
Our class PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure to send your
child into school wearing their gym clothes on these days, with their school
jumper on top. For safety, no jewellery should be worn on gym days and long hair
should be tied up. It would help for children to bring a pair of indoor gym shoes
on a Tuesday.
Other areas
The children are lucky to be continuing to learn Baby Strings music lessons
every Friday morning! With the music teacher they will be learning to play the
violin, viola or cello.
Outdoor Learning
We will be hoping to get outside for outdoor learning as a class, as much as
possible. Even though this is dependent on the weather, please make sure that
your child comes to school in warm and weather appropriate clothing.
Homework and Seesaw
The class have all been issued their seesaw codes for the year. This is the app
that we use throughout the school for homework and communication. Homework
will be uploaded each week from the beginning of September, linked to what
learning we have been doing that week. Each week we will have a weekly spelling
quiz on a Friday! The spelling words and strategies will be shared every Monday,
so please try to practice at home. Please encourage your child to use the app at
home and upload any work or fun that is happening at home!
I am really looking forward to growing with your child this year! If you have anything that you would like to discuss, please speak to me after school at the gate. If it requires a longer chat, then you can contact the school office to arrange this or message me on Seesaw.
We will also be holding a Meet the Teacher session on Wednesday 27th August (27.08.25) at 3:15pm. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and showing you our classroom. There is lots of lovely artwork up on display already.
Thank you!
Miss Millward,
Class Teacher
