Primary 3/2 Newsletter, Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a relaxing October break! It is so lovely to welcome Primary 3/2 back to school and to get started on our new learning for term 2!
This is an exciting term with the celebrations of Halloween, Diwali and Christmas coming up. We have lots of learning taking place which I’d like to outline for you. In November there will also be our first parents evening appointments. This will give you the opportunity to find out how your child is progressing at school. I look forward to seeing you then!
Gym Days
Our PE days will continue to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please send your child ready for gym on these days. Dark coloured shorts/ leggings/ joggers, trainers, white polo shirt, and school jumper/ cardigan. No earrings please. It would be helpful to keep a pair of indoor shoes in school for use in the gym hall. These can be clean trainers or sandshoes.
Literacy
For literacy this term we will continue to follow our Jolly Phonics programme. Children will practise their sounds and key words. Reading books will be given out or uploaded weekly on seesaw, please practise reading with your child each night. Please also try and visit the local library with your child to engage with a wider selection of books.
For writing we will be looking at setting descriptions and report writing. Just a reminder that we will have a spelling quiz every Friday. Spelling words will be shared to Seesaw every Monday for children to practise at home. Try some of the spelling strategies shared to Seesaw.
Numeracy
For numeracy this term, we will continue to use “revise our number bonds” to increase speed and accuracy. We will be looking at skip counting in patterns of 5 and 10 and finding more or less than a given number. This term we will also be beginning to explore the foundations of multiplication and division by making and adding equal groups. For beyond number, we will be learning about different types of measurement by exploring length, height, volume and area which will be done through lots of outdoor learning so please make sure children are wrapped up!
Context of Learning
For our first context of learning this term we will be learning all about our bodies! What are the names of the different parts of our bodies and how do we keep them clean and healthy. We will also look at germs through different scientific experiments and discuss the effect that these can have on our everyday lives. Please discuss this with your child at home especially on the lead up to winter.
We will also be exploring the Vikings during this term with a specific focus on Viking longboats. We will be taking on the roles of Vikings through drama and creating our own longboats- why don’t you have a go at home using some old recycling?
Health and Wellbeing
This term we will continue to focus on regulating our emotions using the zones of regulation. Children will have the opportunity to think about how we act and react when we are not feeling ourselves and we will discuss and try out some strategies to help support them in those times. We will also be exploring food and health by looking at where food comes from, the different types of food groups and what healthy eating looks like.
Lost property
We are still finding that a number of children are losing items in school almost every day. Please ensure that your child’s name is on all items of clothing/snack boxes/water bottles and encourage children to take care of their things.

All homework will continue to be issued on Seesaw, the weekly format (subject to change) is:
