Term 2
Welcome back. It is great to see everyone back, I hope everyone is well rested and ready for the new term!
Numeracy
In numeracy we will be revising our addition and subtraction strategies. We will also be describing number sequences, counting in different multiples and grouping and sharing. We will revise making and identifying halves and quarters, exploring graphs in data handling and we will also look at different notes and coins within money. We shall also be looking at time this term, any extra practice you can give your child to familiarise them with analogue and digital clocks as well as looking at timetables would be beneficial. The children will also access Sumdog – our numeracy programme during numeracy time as much as possible and can access extra practice at home on this. Topmarks also has some free maths games that your child can play at home.
Literacy
In Literacy we will be continuing with our jolly phonics reading programme. Children will get a reading book home once a week. Please keep their reading book in their school bag as we will practice reading daily. Please try and visit the local library with your child to engage with a wider selection of books. We will be visiting the library on 28th October as a class so your child may bring books home at this time which will need to be returned. We will continue to work on grammar through the Jolly Grammar scheme. This term our writing focus will be on character descriptions and explanation texts. We will be continuing to develop our literacy circles and reading strategies. Any opportunities you can give for your child to write at home, such as writing instructions, birthday cards or stories and recipes would be a great experience for them.
Context of Learning
Our planned Context of Learning for this term is The Vikings. This is always a fascinating history topic for the children and we would like to showcase our learning for you in our classroom later in November. Further details to follow.
Gym Sessions
Our Gym sessions will continue to take place on a Monday and Wednesday. Please can children wear their gym clothes to school on these days, with a school jumper on top. Please bring a separate pair of indoor gym shoes on a Monday. No jewellery should be worn on gym days, including small earrings. Long hair should be tied back.
Expressive Arts
The children will continue to take part in Baby Strings music lessons every Friday. This gives all pupils an opportunity to play an instrument such as a violin, viola or cello.
Homework
Homework will continue to be uploaded weekly on Seesaw which is the learning app that we are using throughout the school. This will also be a means of communicating what we are doing in school with you at home and vice versa. Please encourage your child to use the app to post any work completed at home. We will have a weekly spelling quiz every Friday. Spelling words will be shared to Seesaw every Monday for children to practise at home. Please try some of the spelling strategies that will be shared to Seesaw. I will also provide reading books and numeracy homework will be uploaded.
Outdoor Learning
We will be aiming to be learning outdoors at least once each week so please ensure your child comes to school in warm and weather appropriate clothing.
Parents appointments
You will shortly be issued with an appointment to meet with me to discuss your child’s progress. Meeting will take place on either Wed 19th or 26th November. Please let the school office know as soon as possible if there is a problem with your appointment time.
Christmas
The festive season will be upon us before we know it! Our class party will be on Tuesday 16th Dec.
I would like to thank you for your on-going support and as ever, if you have any concerns about your child, please contact me via the school office or the Seesaw app and I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming parents’ evening later on in November.
