Primary 2G Newsletter Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to our final term of P2. We are almost at the end of the school year but Primary 2 still have lots of exciting learning to come this term!
We are also looking forward to going on a class trip in May. More details about this will come to you nearer the time.
Literacy
For Literacy this term we will continue to follow our Jolly Phonics programme and weekly jolly reader reading books. Children will continue to practise their sounds and key words. Please continue to read with children at home to support their learning. There are questions at the back of the book which you can use to discuss the text with your child. This term in writing our focus will be on explanation and recount writing. We also will be looking at non-fiction texts.
Numeracy
The children have worked hard on their numeracy skills and will be consolidating their understanding of addition, subtraction and multiplication. They will be learning how to divide by 2 and 4. We will also be learning how to round to the nearest 10. In beyond number, they will be telling time using o’clock and half past, while some will also use quarter past. We will continue to learn about grid references, right angles, symmetry and measure.
The children will also access Sumdog – our numeracy programme during numeracy time as much as possible. Please encourage your child to spend 20 minutes playing Sumdog every day as this will greatly help their numeracy skills.
Context of Learning
This term our context of learning will be linked with science, and we will be exploring the different types of weather and climates with Mrs Murdoch. We will be observing the weather using our senses and recording our findings. We will also discuss climate zones, and which animals can survive in these environments. When out and about over the next few weeks discuss the weather with your child… What is it like? How does it make you feel? If you close your eyes…, how do you know it’s raining/sunny/windy?
We will also be celebrating Glasgow's 850th year in class. We will be completing an art project, taking part in drama activities and there will also be a themed lunch.
Health and Wellbeing
In HWB we will be looking at how and where food is produced and sort things we eat into the different food groups. The children will have an opportunity to make a healthy snack or drink. Please encourage your child to bring healthy snacks for playtimes and lunchtimes. Child smile will also continue coming into the class twice a week for assisted tooth brushing sessions.
Gym
Our gym sessions will continue to take place on a Tuesday and Friday. Please can children wear their gym clothes to school on these days. On a Friday this will be outdoors and therefore the children should have appropriate clothing. Please bring a separate pair of indoor gym shoes on a Tuesday if you can. No jewellery should be worn on gym days, including small earrings. Long hair should be tied back.
Outdoor Learning
Our class will continue to have an Outdoor Learning session with Mrs Murdoch every Wednesday. They will be learning outside, whatever the weather! If possible, please send your child to school in appropriate clothing for being outdoors, for example, sturdy shoes and a waterproof jacket. We have some spares in school if required.
Homework
This term, homework and communication will continue on Seesaw. Please let us know if you have any problems accessing these or if you require a new family invite/home learning code for your child. You will receive your child’s report closer to the end of the term.
We will continue to have a weekly spelling quiz every Friday. Spelling words will be shared to Seesaw every Monday for children to practise at home. Please try some of the spelling strategies that will be shared to Seesaw. I will also provide reading books and numeracy homework will be uploaded.
How can I help my child?
I would like to thank you for your on-going support and if you have any concerns
about your child, please contact me via the school office or the Seesaw app.
