Primary 6 Newsletter Term 3
Term 3 has now begun. I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and the children are ready for another busy term.
Literacy:
The children will a class novel and will focus on the plot and how they are structured. In addition, we will be looking at fact and fiction, identifying similes and metaphors, and using graphic organisers to select information from non-fiction texts. In writing, the children will be focussing on narratives including describing a setting, character and their appearance, actions, speech and body language. The pupils will continue to practise our grammar skills, focussing on adverbs, contractions, tenses and spelling. In talking and listening we will be practicing the appropriate times to enter a conversation and ask questions.
Numeracy:
The class will be learning different strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division during term 4. We will be exploring capacity & volume, duration, as well as measuring and drawing angles. We will also be revising number patterns and the four operations. The pupils will revise their money skills and learn about budgeting and profit.
Health & Wellbeing:
Our gym days will be Monday and Thursday. This term we will be learning about different athletics events. Please remove jewellery on these days. Pupils are free to wear their P.E. clothes to school on these days. Our class will continue to exercise outdoors so please ensure pupils wear appropriate clothing for the weather. The class will also be exploring their own strengths and talents and then using these to think about future careers. The class will use this information to research different jobs and the qualifications needed.
Other areas of the curriculum:
Our topic this term is the Scottish Parliament. We will be exploring citizenship, democracy, elections and debates. We will be exploring form and line in art in the style of famous artists. The children will have opportunities to explore Science, Drama, Dance and many more curricular areas. In RME the children will be looking at stories and customs of Hinduism. The class will also be exploring different genres of music!
Homework:
Spelling and Numeracy homework will continue to be issued on Seesaw a Monday and due in on Fridays. Term 4’s monthly homework grid has been posted on Seesaw. Please encourage your child to take responsibility and ownership of the tasks they choose to complete.
