Dear P7b parents/carers,
Welcome to Term 3, our longest term of the year. We have lots planned for P7 this term!
Health and Well Being
P.E.
This term our gym days are Tuesday and Friday. Could you please ensure your child doesn’t wear jewellery on gym days? Please note, children are not allowed to take part in gym if they’re wearing earrings.
Our main areas of focus in PE will be dance. Celtic Connections will be in to deliver Scottish Step-dance sessions this term. We will also be recording our ‘daily’ miles to see how far we have run.
Health
Our health topic this term will be about substance misuse and the class will also engage with the Relationships and Sexual Health Programme (RSHP), e.g. puberty.
Literacy
Writing
We will be learning to create procedural and explanation texts this term, with a minor focus on character too.
Reading
This term we shall be working on building our reading skills and strategies towards secondary school level, with more challenging texts, and in preparation for our end of P7 reading assessment (which will take place in April/May). We will look at a variety of both fiction and non-fiction texts.
Talking & Listening
The class will be continuing to build communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively in groups. They will also be delivering individual presentations to the class.
Context of Learning (topic)
For our Term 3 context of learning, we will be learning all about World War II and how people were affected by it all around the world. We will be looking into the reasons behind the war and what important lessons we can gain from learning about it.
Numeracy
For number, we will be applying our knowledge of the 4 operations, negative numbers and fractions, decimals and percentages in new contexts, including word problems. We will also be working on ‘beyond number’ topics, which this term will be algebra and measure.
Outdoor Learning/Science
Please ensure that your child always brings or wears a sensible jacket (waterproof if possible) and suitable shoes every day, as we never know what the Scottish weather will do!
In Science, with Mrs Jimenez and Miss Lindsay, we will be learning about forces, body systems and topical science - researching famous scientists and the impact they have had on the world.
Other staff/Partnerships
This term Mrs Jimenez will continue to deliver beyond number, science and PE to the class on Tuesdays. We have a student teacher, Miss Lindsay, with us this term up until the end of February. Baby Strings lessons will continue on Thursday mornings. Citizens Theatre will be in to deliver some workshops in art/drama, Celtic Connections are in to deliver some step-dance lessons, and in March the whole school will participate in Ready, Steady Sing. Our P7s will also join with St Francis’ P7 classes for Sense Over Sectarianism.
Homework
This term’s homework will consist of weekly spelling lists, maths and literacy tasks, and a termly homework grid. All homework will be posted on our P7b Seesaw page. Remember, if your child requires a homework jotter, they can ask in class.
If you wish to support your child further with their learning this term, you could ask older family members or friends if they have any memories of World War II they would be willing to share!
P7 Residential
As you will be aware, the P7s will attend their residential trip to Lockerbie Manor from 5th- 9th February. Further information will be provided on Seesaw.
Thanks in advance for your support!
Miss Taylor
