Dear Parents and Carers,
It is already your child’s final term in primary school! It has been an incredibly quick year. There will be a lot of communication this term about transition dates and other dates for your diary so please keep an eye out.
Literacy
In literacy, the main writing genres we will cover will be discussion and explanation texts. We will also learn to paraphrase information from a reliable source. Literacy Circle work will continue to allow children to apply a variety of reading skills and strategies with increasing independence. Throughout the term, we will study a range of both fiction and non-fiction texts. For talking and listening, we will look at participating in debates.
Maths and Numeracy
In numeracy, we will revisit some areas covered throughout the year to revise the key skills. We will also look at some new learning including rounding decimals, solving problems with negative numbers and recording division remainders as whole numbers, fractions or decimals.
Health and Wellbeing
Our P.E days are still Tuesdays (indoor) and Thursdays (outdoors). On P.E days, children should attend school wearing dark coloured jogging bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo-shirt and their Blackfriars sweatshirt or cardigan. For safety reasons, please ensure that your child does not wear jewellery or false nails to school. Long hair should be tied back on P.E days. As well as outdoor P.E, the class will continue to take part Outdoor Learning activities with Mrs Murdoch on Wednesday mornings and be outdoors as much as possible. Please ensure your child is appropriately for the weather.
COL
Our topic for the term will be ‘transition’ to help the children prepare for secondary school. We will work with Miss Arshad and P7/6 each week for these lessons.
Homework
Homework and weekly spelling words will be added to each child’s Seesaw activities each week. Please encourage your child to read at home to support their progress and expand their vocabulary. Daily use of Sumdog is also beneficial to help your child to keep practising their numeracy skills.
P7 Leavers
At the moment, we are looking into arranging a leavers’ daytrip in June. The children have made suggestions as to what they might like to do, and we are in the process of gathering quotes.
We are very fortunate that the Parent Council have provided funding for the leavers’ hoodies this year. Many thanks to them for this.
This term, we will also work with the P7s from the P7/6 class to create a leavers’ assembly which we will present to entire school. There will also be a performance for families to attend on the afternoon of Monday 23rd June 2025. More information will be given nearer the time.
Thank you for your support throughout this year,
Miss Pollock
