Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a lovely October break.
Primary 4 are working hard and we have another busy term ahead with a lot of exciting things planned. Literacy In reading, we will continue to explore a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. Children will continue to develop their ability to answer literal, inferential and evaluative questions to demonstrate their understanding of a text. In writing, we will be learning to write short stories. This will include creating our own characters and settings. Children will develop a plot for their story and will have opportunities to share their story with others. Children will continue to work through Jolly Grammar and will learn or revise different spelling rules as well as ‘tricky words’. Children should practise their spelling regularly at home. They will complete a spelling test at the end of each week.
Maths and Numeracy In numeracy, we will cover a number of areas including estimation and rounding, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also begin to look at adding equal fractions. In maths we will learn more about adding money and calculating change, telling the time and measurement. Mrs Murdoch will also continue with some lessons on symmetry.
Health and Wellbeing Our indoor P.E slot will still be on a Tuesday morning. Our outdoor slot has currently changed to a Wednesday as we have the chance to take part in a 6-week block of training sessions with visiting football coaches. The final date of these sessions will be Wednesday 26th November 2025. After this date, our outdoor P.E slot will return to a Thursday afternoon. Children should attend school on P.E days wearing dark coloured jogging bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo-shirt and their Blackfriars sweatshirt or cardigan. For indoor P.E days, children should bring a change of suitable shoes to wear in the gym hall. Please ensure that your child does not wear jewellery to school on P.E days and that long hair is tied back.
Outdoor Learning The class will be learning outdoors throughout the term. Please ensure you child is appropriately dressed for the colder weather. Please also add your child’s name to the label of their jackets, jumpers and cardigans so that if they are lost, they can be returned to the correct pupil.
Homework Homework will be added to the Seesaw activities every Monday at 3pm. This will include spelling words. Please encourage your child to practise reading each day at home to support their progress. Daily use of Sumdog is also beneficial to help your child to develop their numeracy skills.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Pollock
