Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing Winter break.
Literacy
In literacy, we will continue to study a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts and complete Literacy Circle jobs based on these texts. This will allow children to continue developing a range of before, during and after reading strategies. In writing, children will learn to create poems, explanation texts, and persuasive texts. Children will continue to work through Jolly Grammar and their spelling words will be posted to their Seesaw activities each week.
Maths and Numeracy
In maths, we will cover a number of areas including money, time and shape. We will also continue learning from term 2 related to symmetry. In numeracy, we will cover rounding to 10 and 100, comparing fractions and will continue to use the four operations in a variety of ways. Children should continue to practise their times tables regularly to build their confidence and quick mental recall of times table facts.
Health and Wellbeing
Our P.E will continue to be Tuesdays (indoors) and Wednesdays (outdoors). Children should continue to attend school wearing their gym clothes on these days. Outdoor P.E and other outdoor learning will continue as much as possible in term 3. Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed for the colder weather and that your child does not wear jewellery on gym days. In P.E, we will cover gymnastics, dance, and hockey.
The class will learn about internet safety during health and wellbeing sessions. We will also be covering the RSHPE programme. Information around this has already been shared by Mr McCormick via Seesaw messages. A further update will be shared closer to the time of starting the programme. Please contact the school office if you have any questions or concerns.
Other Areas
Our Context of Learning topic will be The Ancient Egyptians. We will explore this topic through a number of curricular areas including social studies, literacy, and expressive arts. Mrs Jiménez will take the class for part of the day every Monday. She will carry out some outdoor learning and science.
Homework
The new homework grid for this term has now been added to Seesaw. Children’s weekly spelling words will be added to their Seesaw activity section. Please continue to encourage your child to post to their journal and share their hard work.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Pollock
