Primary 1b Newsletter Term 3
Hi Everybody,
Hope you all had a restful holiday!
Literacy
Our focus this term is Fairy tales and we’ll be doing a lot of work around a new one each week. I’ll continue to keep handing out reading books, which will be changed when children are ready to move on. It’s really important that children bring the books into school with them each day, as we’ll soon be doing literacy activities around the books rather than simply reading them.
It would be incredibly helpful if you could find some time to practice with your child at home; this will give them a huge boost.
In writing, we’ll be starting to write full sentences using sounds that they know and new ones to be learned.
Numeracy
We’ll be continuing with addition this term as well as bringing subtraction into the mix. There will also be a big focus on counting forwards and backwards to 30 (a few children have begun skip counting). We’ll also be covering other areas including fractions.
Health and Wellbeing
After a bit of confusion and scheduling problems last term, we have managed to settle on Tuesdays (indoor) and Fridays (outdoor) for PE. This term, we will also be starting the relationships, sexual health and parenthood (RSHP Scotland) module.
COL
Our context of learning this term is around toys. This will include work in science (forces) and talking and listening (group presentations on different types of toys).
Homework
Homework will continued to be posted on Seesaw. It will usually correspond with what they have learned on that particular day.
What can I do at home?
We will do a lot more work on letter and number formation in class but as with last term, any support with this at home would be greatly appreciated, as well as finding time to have your children read the books that we send home.
Kind regards,
Mr Jones
